Every bookmark you saved, one search away.
Bookmark Scout is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox that searches, organizes, and cleans up the bookmarks you already have. It runs in your browser, with no account and no server of its own.
Free and open source under AGPL-3.0.

What you can do with it
Real screenshots from the Chrome build. They follow your system's light or dark setting.

Search from the toolbar
The toolbar popup: a folder tree, instant search, and one-click save to any folder.
- Search every bookmark as you type, with match case, whole word, and regular expression options
- Keep the same tree and search open in the side panel in Chrome and Edge
- Save a search as a smart view that always shows current results
- Move through folders and results with the keyboard; browser Ctrl and Cmd shortcuts keep working

File pages where they belong
The manager replaces Chrome's Bookmarks page with a folder tree, breadcrumbs, and a sortable table.
- Save the current page to any folder in one click, without saving it twice
- Drag bookmarks and folders around the folder tree
- Save links from the right-click menu into recent folders
- Filter, sort, and resize columns in the manager's table
- Import HTML or JSON after a preview, and export HTML, JSON, Markdown, or CSV

Tidy years of saved links
Duplicate Cleaner shows each group and the copy it keeps before anything is removed.
- Review duplicate groups, then remove the extra copies
- Strip tracking parameters from URLs after a preview
- Find dead links and repair them: delete, use the redirect, point to an archived copy, or edit the URL
- Fetch page titles and apply only the ones you pick
- Download each site's own icon, so bookmarks show it even in Firefox
- Delete with a confirmation, and undo it for 10 seconds

Use AI with your own provider, or not at all
AI is off until you turn it on in Settings, choose a provider, and add your own API key where the provider needs one.
- Folder suggestions for the page you are on, including a new folder path after you review it
- Tag suggestions and short summaries that you review before saving
- Folder reorganization plans, previewed before anything moves
- Export selected bookmarks as Markdown or XML context for an AI chat; this works without AI and sends nothing
Supported providers
- OpenAI
- Anthropic
- Groq
- Mistral AI
- DeepSeek
- OpenRouter
- Ollama
- CLIProxyAPI
- Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint
In Firefox, Bookmark Scout has the toolbar popup: search, the folder tree, saving, and AI folder suggestions. The manager, cleanup tools, saved searches, and import and export are not available there yet.
Your bookmarks stay in your browser.

Questions
Does Bookmark Scout send my bookmarks anywhere?
No. Your bookmarks are read and changed inside your browser, and the extension sends nothing to the developer. Data leaves your browser only when you use an optional feature: AI requests go to the provider you chose, and the dead link checker, title fetcher, and site icon refresh request the bookmarked sites after you allow website access. Settings sync through your browser account if browser sync is on. The privacy policy has the details.
Do I need to use AI?
No. Search, organizing, cleanup, and import and export all work without it. AI stays off until you turn it on in Settings.
Which AI providers can I use?
You can use OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, Mistral AI, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Ollama, CLIProxyAPI, or Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. You add your own API key where the provider needs one, and the provider may charge for usage.
Will it change my bookmarks without asking?
No. Duplicate cleanup, URL cleanup, dead link repairs, fetched titles, AI reorganization, and imports all show a review before anything is written. Deleting asks for confirmation by default, and deletions and imports can be undone for 10 seconds.
Does it work in Firefox?
Yes, with a smaller feature set: the toolbar popup with search, the folder tree, saving, and AI folder suggestions. The manager, cleanup tools, import and export, and saved searches need Chrome or Edge. Until the Firefox Add-ons listing is ready, Firefox loads it as a temporary add-on, which is removed when Firefox restarts.
Why is it not in the browser stores yet?
Listings for the Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, and Firefox Add-ons are being prepared, and each store reviews an extension before it goes live. Until then, install it from GitHub Releases.
Is it free?
Yes. Bookmark Scout is free and open source under AGPL-3.0, with no ads and no paid plan. If you turn on AI, your provider may charge for API usage.
