Common problems
Bookmark Scout disappears when I restart Firefox
Until the Firefox Add-ons listing is live, Bookmark Scout runs in Firefox as a temporary add-on, and Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it restarts.
Load it again after a restart: open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, click Load Temporary Add-on, and select the manifest.json file in the extracted folder.
I can't find the bookmarks manager in Firefox
Firefox does not let extensions replace its bookmarks page, so the Bookmark Scout manager and its Tools sidebar are not available there. The maintenance tools, import and export, saved searches, statistics, and the AI tools in the manager work in Chrome and Edge.
In Firefox, use the toolbar popup to search, save pages, and manage folders.
Site icons are missing in Firefox
Bookmark Scout shows the browser's own cached icons, which Chrome and Edge share with extensions and Firefox does not. Sites you have not visited recently can show a generic globe in Chrome and Edge for the same reason.
Run Refresh Site Icons in the manager's Tools sidebar to download each site's own icon. Saved icons stay on this device. In Firefox the manager opens only at its extension URL; the documentation explains how to find it.
Check Dead Links, Metadata Fetcher, or Refresh Site Icons did not scan anything
These tools need access to websites, which Bookmark Scout does not get at install. The browser asks the first time you run them, and if you decline, nothing is scanned.
Run the tool again and allow access when the browser asks.
AI features are missing or do not respond
AI features are off by default. Turn them on in Settings, under AI, choose a provider, and enter your API key. A local Ollama server needs no key.
Click Verify Service to test the connection. The first time, the browser asks for access to that provider's site; allow it so the extension can reach the provider.
Report a bug
Bug reports go to GitHub Issues, where anyone can follow the fix. Search the existing issues first, in case someone has already reported it.
Open an issue on GitHubA useful report includes
- Your browser and its version (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox).
- The Bookmark Scout version, shown on your browser's extensions page.
- The steps that lead to the problem, starting from where you opened Bookmark Scout: the popup, side panel, or manager.
- What you expected and what happened instead, including any error message.
- A screenshot if it helps, with private bookmarks hidden.
Issues are public. Never paste an API key, and leave out bookmark titles or URLs you do not want others to see.
